THANKS FOR THE PROOF!!!
There are not too many things you can do during your lifetime which can prove one way or another if you have been living a (generally speaking) healthy lifestyle. Of course, there is the way you feel that can be some kind of indicator, but many times there are rumblings in the depth of your body that give no indication of things going wrong until suddenly, there it is in all its ugly forms staring you right in the face.
The story starts about ten years ago when I was involved in an internet info search for a very good friend of mine that was battling full blown prostate cancer. [A TRIP TO CANCER AND BACK] Although I was using the same treatments as my friend my PSA never varied or dropped, something that I could not understand. My PSA was running in the forties / + and at the time, for a person my age, the protocol said the PSA should not be over 7.9. These were standards used in Mexico. I mention this because I have observed many different maximums there and in the U.S.. Recently, someone told me that their doctor was advising a biopsy and an operation with a PSA of only 5 and another was being advised to do a biopsy with only a 2. To me this is criminal, to scare people into having medical procedures performed without justification. It goes without saying that anyone in that position should say Adiós to that doctor and get another opinion from someone with scruples. In Mexico I had a Russian doctor that thought nothing of my higher than usual PSA and said he used to have a patient with a 1,500 PSA. Because of his apparent lack of concern it helped me for a long time to not be so worried about it. Even so, I have always religiously stayed with Saw Palmetto Plus and Beta Sitosterol plus other supplements that are supposed to maintain a healthy prostate.
Now to present day problems (?) or supposed problems: My PSA is still running true to form with the exception that my last blood test showed it had jumped from the mid forties to the high sixties. At first I did a double take on the results, but tried to reassure myself that it was not significant according my Russian doctor. The difference this time is my prostate has gradually increased in size making urination a little difficult plus more frequent sometimes at night. Naturally, I have had for some time a gnawing in my gut that maybe, just maybe, I could have cancer. My trip, this time, back the U. S. was to find out exactly what is going on so on my visit to my primary physician at the VA I questioned him as to the possibility of having a Laser Reduction of the Prostate to alleviate the urination problem. I had just heard of this treatment (out patient) from another friend in Mexico. He told me he had just had it done and everything turned out fine. As a result of my discussion with my doctor, he made an appointment with a urologist for me.
I would be lying if I said I was not worried about the outcome of the visit with the urologist. Right away he stated that they do the Laser Reduction for the Prostate but only if you can not urinate at all, the logic of which I do not understand. I have two friends that underwent such an experience and believe me it is something no one should have to endure. After the usual preliminary rectal exam and comments about my high PSA I mentioned the lack of concern that my Russian doctor had over a high PSA. Amazingly enough he said he has seen cases of 2000 and 3000 PSAs which just confirms to me the inaccuracy of the basic test. Even though I was temporarily relieved after hearing that, he continued with: “I bet you have cancer”, and with that he suggested that I take a Cat Scan and then a Bone Scan to see if cancer had metastasized into bone cancer in the event he was right. After trying to control my emotions, which were running high, I agreed to have the tests under the premise it is better to know one way or another if the answer is yes or no. After so many years of not knowing it might be a relief to know. The doc was not pushy or aggressive at all and made it clear to me that it is my decision to take or not take the tests.
On the day of Cat Scan I arrived early at the hospital as usual and they took me in right away and gave me two bottles of a liquid to drink that had a banana flavor. Not too long after I was called to go in the area where the test was to be performed. There was one person ahead of me so that meant another 45 minute wait which under the circumstances seemed forever. When my turn came I was frozen because of the air conditioning. The doctor gave me heated sheets and a blanket when I laid down for the scan. What a relief. The nurse informed me that I should expect a warm feeling through my body when she activated the intravenous with radiated iodine. The feeling was exactly as she described it and it was amazing the speed with which I could feel the fluid surging through my body. All in all, the whole non-invasive process was not disagreeable in the least.
After what seemed an interminable period of time I finally received the results which I am placing here just the way they were given to me: “Appears rather unremarkable by overall impressions, mildly enlarged spleen, some gall stones, calcification of your abdominal aorta which can be age related, and enlarged prostate. No evidence of cancer though”. I am sure anyone can understand the relief I feel after several years of
not knowing. The simple fact is I do not like to go to doctors or take tests, medication and whatever else goes with it. There is also the fact that most doctors do not agree with natural methods and treatments and I have to agree they have reason since they are handcuffed and monitored by the pharmaceutical companies and FDA and are afraid of losing their practice and standing in the community. After all is said and done, I am more confident than ever that the natural way of healing and just staying healthy is the only way. I say this knowing full well that what works for me does not necessarily work for everybody. For someone that is so skeptical about most doctors intentions I feel the need to mention that at the VA hospital in West Palm, Florida, all personnel have treated me with the greatest respect and on arriving even 45 minutes early for an appointment, they have taken care of me without hesitation – no waiting. Most of the time, I am on my way home before my actual appointment time. It seems they are a well-oiled machine functioning at maximum efficiency. To sum it up, it is very assuring to receive news that, in essence, says you have been doing the right thing. To me it is proof positive that sticking to the natural health style of living, eating right and proper supplementation is the only way. CLICK ON THESE TWO LINKS FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
